World Oral Health Day 2026

March 20th is World Oral Health Day 👄

This year’s theme, “A Happy Mouth is… A Happy Life” marks the culmination of a three-year global campaign led by the World Dental Federation.

Following previous themes linking oral health to the body and mind, this final chapter highlights a critical message: oral health is fundamental to overall health and wellbeing across the life course.

🦷 What does “a happy mouth” mean in practice?

Oral health needs evolve at every stage of life — but the impact remains constant.

🤰During pregnancy
Hormonal changes increase vulnerability to gum disease and tooth decay, making preventive care essential.

👶In infancy and early childhood
Oral health begins before the first tooth. Early habits play a key role in preventing tooth decay — one of the most common preventable diseases in children 👧

🧑For teens and adults
Daily behaviours — from sugar intake to brushing technique — directly influence long-term oral and systemic health 👩‍🦰

👩‍🦲In older age
Oral health is closely linked to broader health outcomes, including nutrition, infection risk, and quality of life 👵

🌍 Why this matters

A healthy mouth supports:
• Overall physical health
• Confidence and social wellbeing
• Nutrition and quality of life

Across all ages, prevention, education, and access to care remain central to achieving better health outcomes 🦷

📢 This World Oral Health Day, we highlight the importance of integrating oral health into wider health systems and everyday life.
