WHO CC has been actively involved in supporting Imperial Masters and Medical students in their journey of skills development for career growth. In 2022, an internship programme was created by our Co-Director, Celine Tabche, and under her supervision, students are involved in a range of the WHOCC activities.
The Centre has welcomed selected interns each year to provide an opportunity to gain insights into Public Health work. Interns are actively involved in events and projects run by the Centre in community outreach and health promotion campaigns, as well as research work. They also gain insight and opportunity to develop their communication and presentation skills and receive meaningful feedback to foster professional growth.
Other than the internship programme, the Centre plans the annual WHO HQ Geneva and WHO Academy Lyon Trips. Find out more here: Students’ study trip to the WHO Academy, Lyon, France & Yearly WHO HQ Trip.

Here is what the last cohort of interns thought of the experience:

“My internship at the WHO Collaborating Centre for Public Health Education and Training at Imperial was really a valuable experience. I had the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that strengthened my understanding of global health challenges and the role of education and training in addressing them. The team provided excellent and consistent mentorship, encouraging me to apply and improve my skills while also expanding my knowledge in public health research, policy, and practice. The experience not only enhanced my technical and analytical abilities, but also gave me a deeper appreciation for collaborative, multi-disciplinary approaches to improving population health. I am grateful for the supportive and stimulating environment, which, in many ways, has inspired me to continue developing my career in public health.”

I cannot recommend the WHOCC Student Internship highly enough! Over the course of my time at the WHOCC I’ve been given opportunities to work on public and global health areas I am passionate about, and to develop skills that I really value in the workplace! The mentorship and guidance from the team throughout has been incredible, and I really appreciate the team for being genuine in their encouragement and support as someone who is early in their career but who is keen to pursue academics and public health. Thank you so much!”

“This internship was a great experience overall. Not only did it help me develop my hard skills such as academic writing, but it also helped me acquire new skills while constantly learning about new health-related topics. Some tasks really felt meaningful, and being able to produce a tangible output was really appreciated. For anyone interested in continuous learning and skills development, keeping up to date with ongoing public health research and working in a supportive team during your studies at Imperial College London, the WHOCC is a great place to be!”

“My internship was both enriching and transformative. I wrote health promotion articles for the WHOCC blog and helped design disease-specific leaflets for non-English speakers. One of the highlights of my internship was designing and leading a digital health session, which enhanced my presentation skills and enabled me to communicate essential public health information to a diverse audience. Overall, this experience deepened my passion for health promotion and equipped me with valuable skills to positively impact my communication.”
