World Kidney Day 2026

💡 Did you know? Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects 1 in 10 people worldwide 🌍🩺

This World Kidney Day, we would like to highlight some of the work on this topic from our  WHOCC Fellow, Dr Fakhria Al-Rashdi. 👩‍⚕️

Dr Fakhria is a family physician from Oman, who has first-hand experience of the burden of CKD in her practice. She has spent her time as a Fellow reviewing CKD management strategies that she can implement in her community.

🎥 To hear more about Dr Fakhria’s experience, check out this interview with Dr Fakhria and WHOCC Project Manager Ela Augustyniak:

📄 A systematic review was recently published in the journal Frontiers in Nephrology that explores chronic kidney disease among hypertensive patients in Arab countries. This was led by Dr Fakhria Al-Rashdi in collaboration with Celine Tabche, Prof Salman Rawaf, Prof Zeenah Atwan, and WHOCC Fellows Dr Hamed Al-Qanubi, Dr Samiya Al Khaldi, and Dr Nasrin Al-Zadjali.

The review found a large burden of CKD among patients with hypertension, worsened by delayed diagnosis and inequalities in care, ranging from screening through to treatment and control of risk factors ⚠️
