The Board has two types of members, permanent and provisional. The Advisory Council has three sections; each is defined within this website and represents the major bodies of expert educators or regulators. The Chairs of each Section have a permanent seat on the Board. The Site Visitor Panel are medical educators prepared to visit medical schools around the globe and determine if they comply with IAOMC’s global standards. The Chair of that panel has a permanent Board seat. The Chair of the Ethics Committee has a permanent Board seat. The Chair of the Regulator/administrator site visitor observer panel has a permanent non-voting seat on the Board.

Each of the five founding schools and Hope Medical Institute invested two years of start-up capital and agreed to be provisional voters until their school became accredited. SMU and Saba schools were recapitalized; the new investors did not wish their schools to list database document reports on the IAOMC website or participate in expenses for the next two years. They allowed their membership to lapse. Neither SGU nor AUC have subscribed to forwarding their site visitor reports for the website and have withdrawn from provisional membership. Ross University had participated in contributing their database document but discontinued financial participation and has, in effect, withdrawn from provisional membership. After the University of Lublin had been approved in California and the University of Silesia applied and anticipated being approved, Hope Medical Institute announced both schools had accomplished their objectives and withdrew from provisional membership.

The Board has five voting members and is authorized by one non-voting member;
